What are Pleural Plaques?
Pleural plaques are patches of scar tissue. They’re a telltale sign that you’ve been exposed to asbestos.
Typically you will experience no symptoms as a direct result of pleural plaques.
The big danger with pleural plaques is that as they show you’ve been exposed to asbestos, there is a real risk that they will develop into a more serious and potentially fatal asbestos related condition like mesothelioma.
The Courts in Northern Ireland have recognised this danger and decided, unlike in England & Wales, that you can claim compensation following a diagnosis of pleural plaques.
In 2015 we acted for the widow of a man in a ground-breaking Court of Appeal case which provided guidance on the level of award available for pleural plaques sufferers under the current legislation.
If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with pleural plaques and your exposure to asbestos was the result of workplace exposure, you are entitled to compensation.
