Whilst getting older is something we all have to accept noise damage is very different and entirely preventable. This is why the law imposed a strict duty upon employers to protect their workers against noise in the workplace. This duty has been in place since the early 1960’s.
If you worked in a noisy workplace your employer was required to PROVIDE adequate and EFFECTIVE EAR PROTECTION and also ENFORCE its’ use – it was not enough to provide a dispenser that sometimes contained ear plugs. They must always have been available, stop the noise reaching your ears and their use constantly enforced. Often ear plugs would not have screened the noise and double ear protection in the form of ear muffs over the plugs would have been required – in our experience very few employers provided this level of protection.
If you worked in a noisy job, even for a short time and even if your employer is no longer trading contact us. We can carry out a search of our extensive database of insurers and arrange a FREE hearing test which will allow us to let you know if we can start a claim to recover compensation for your loss of hearing / tinnitus and support for buying hearing aids.
Many people delay lodging a claim thinking that age is the main cause of their hearing difficulties however it is often the case that noisy employment earlier in their life has advanced their hearing difficulties by many years leading to frustrations within the family due to difficulty communicating with spouses and children or in social settings.
We have unrivalled expertise in these cases in Northern Ireland and speaking to us will give you the best chance of success.
You may have put it down to natural causes, but if you experience any of the following symptoms and have ever worked in a noisy environment, you could be entitled to compensation:
Mishearing words in conversation
Finding it difficult to follow conversations socially
Background noise makes hearing people difficult
Having to focus on one person when speaking
Having to turn up the TV (and family members complaining!)
Asking people to repeat themselves
Tinnitus or a ringing/buzzing in your ear
If any of this sounds familiar, call us today on 028 90 49 3349 or leave an enquiry to request a call back at a time that suits you.
Tinnitus
If you suffer from a ringing or buzzing in your ears, known as ‘tinnitus’, then you may be entitled to compensation.
Did you know that excessive noise in the workplace is a leading cause of tinnitus?
Tinnitus occurs when part of the inner ear called the Cochlea is damaged.
This carries thousands of tiny cells that detect sound. When these are damaged (often by noise in the workplace) the brain seeks sound from elsewhere in the body, causing tinnitus.
How tinnitus presents varies, but the Courts have recognised that if you suffer from this as a result of noise exposure in the workplace, you are entitled to compensation.
This list is not exhaustive. We have acted against many other employers and our vast experience allows us to trace insurance cover for many companies that have long ceased trading.
