ANDREW
MAIRS
SOLICITOR
Andrew graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2000 before attending the Institute of Professional Legal Studies and completing his training at a large commercial firm. He then worked in legal offices in Dublin and Sydney, Australia. He returned to Northern Ireland in 2004 and began working in the area of Family Law. Andrew joined Keenan Solicitors in 2007 and now heads up the Family Law and Criminal Departments.
As a former Chair of the Family Law Solicitors Association and member of the Children’s Order Panel since 2009 and one of only 90 solicitors empanelled on the Children’s Court Guardian Agency (CCGANI) to represent children going through the care system.
More recently Andrew has enjoyed working on high value separations and has an interest in simplifying the financial process of separation avoiding the need to go to Court. He acts for both husbands and wives when a relationship or marriage breaks down; dealing with the division of the assets and handling separation proceedings together with sorting out arrangements for the care of any children.
Andrew will always try to reach an early settlement if this is in his client’s interest but is skilled at navigating the court system to ensure that his client’s case will be presented to best advantage before a Judge if that’s what’s needed. Andrew also has a keen interest in the digitalisation of the legal process to include remote attendance at courts to keep client’s costs down.
Andrew was elected to the Law Society Council in 2023 and sits on the criminal and family committees.
